Music with Mummy was established in 1992.  Our music education program will take your child on a musical journey from a baby through to school with our carefully structured classes. Class sizes are kept small so I can get to know you and your child and help them grow in confidence each week. Our classes are all about learning and all about having FUN, however, as ever there are T&C’s that I do need to make you aware of.  If you have any worries or concerns at any point, please don’t hesitate to come and speak to me. If you would like to discuss a matter privately please give me a call at home, preferably before 7pm if possible.

Payments for your class

Classes are paid for in advance of the upcoming term, at the time of booking.   If for some reason you are struggling or may struggle to pay (e.g. pay day falls at the wrong time) please tell me and we can possibly come to an alternative arrangement e.g. delaying payment.

If you’re reserving your place within a class for the next term, then, again, please pay at the time of booking, preferably no later than one week before the start of term. You can make payment via bank transfers, cash or Paypal.

Renewal of your place

During the last class of a term I will announce what the next term’s theme will be and when the new term will start. Should you want to reserve your place please book as soon as possible, if you can’t pay right away, please let me know, so I can pencil your name in. Please however make payment as soon as possible to confirm your place.

If you don’t want to renew your place

Please could you notify me in advance if you don’t wish to renew you place for the next term.  I would hate to turn little ones away because I don’t think I have spaces available for them.

Missed Classes

Classes are non-refundable as a rule, as I am still required to pay for my venue and cover additional expenses for props etc. Where possible I will offer you a class on an alternative day/time so you can make that missed class up.

In the unlikely event that I need to cancel a class I will, again, offer an alternative day and time e.g. a Saturday to make that class up to you.

Please let me know in advance that you won’t be attending a class, if possible, as a) I may be able to offer your space that week to someone else and b) I can possibly arrange for you to attend another class that week.

What happens if you or your child is sick

If either you or your little one is ill, please do not come to class. This is to avoid the spread of infection. Due to the nature of our classes, we come into close contact with one another and of course share instruments and props meaning infections can be spread easily. Please note: If either you or your little one has had sickness or diarrhea then the guideline is that you should not attend a class for 48 hours since you last had a bout of sickness and/or diarrhea.

If I have to cancel a class

In the unlikely event that I need to cancel a class I will contact you by phone. Please make sure I have an up to date mobile/home number for you. I will also announce it on my Facebook page. In the event of snow, I will again let you know when/if I have reached the venue and if the class is going ahead. If you decide not to come, these classes are non-refundable. As mentioned above, if I must cancel a class, I will endeavor to make this class up to you on a different day.

Class Etiquette

•  Mobile phones should be turned to silent. If you are expecting an urgent call then let me know, but when the phone goes off, please pop outside the room to answer it.

•                 In all venues there are nappy changing facilities. If your child has a dirty smelly nappy then don’t change it in the room where we are having the class. In some venues there aren’t bins for dirty nappies so you should take them home to dispose of.

•                  I would love my classes to be warm, friendly, safe and non-judgmental spaces, however, please keep chatting between the grown-ups to the beginning and end of class or in between the songs, if needs be but certainly not during them. This is just so your little ones can engage in the classes activities and singing without distraction, therefore allowing them to gain the most they can from each class. The classes are also a brilliant time to bond with your child one to one.

•                  If your child is having a bit of a melt down and making more noise than me, then please pop out of the room with them until they have calmed down, and then come back in

•                  If you arrive late for class, or do go outside during the class, please wait for a gap in the music to come in.

•                  Please don’t worry if your child decides to wander away from the circle, and certainly don’t call across the class to them. This happens and you can try and re-engaging them when we move on to the next song, I will be on hand to help draw their attention back to the activity.

•                  If your child is in Three-Four Time and you are waiting in the adjoining rooms - please keep the noise levels down and do clear up before your leave.

Finally get the most out of your class

The educational benefits of music are numerous. The patterns and rhythms will help with their maths and with language development. Doing music in a small group such as ours will also have the benefit of teaching social skills such as sharing and taking turns. I will always be gently encouraging good manners and like to think when they leave my classes to go to big school that they will be somewhat prepared.

To help them you could:

•  Sing and interact with them in class.

•  Sing the songs with them at home (if you can’t remember the words to start with then make them up).

•  Have a box of instruments at home to have your own music sessions.

•  Add “listening music” into your bed time routine.

•  Talk to them before class about what we might be going to do.

•  Talk to them after class about what we did.

•  Repeat the activities we do in class at home.

•  I don’t believe in pushing merchandise, however there are some Jolly Babies CDs and some Music with Mummy Songbooks available. Please ask me if you would like further details about these.
